350164368_ce9abb60b5_500 South Dublin County Council's Arts Office is planning its Art Strategy for the County for the next 5 years.

The strategy is a document that lists the Arts Office's plans for supporting artists, communities, adults and young people to take part in the arts (filmmaking, music, photography, painting, drawing, dance, drama and more!). You can see the last strategy here. Also, there is another plan just about young people and the arts too!

And just so you know...

The rights of young people to participate freely in cultural life and the arts are enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which refers to people of all ages, further affirms these rights. National legislation in Ireland and EU policies and programmes recognise young people’s rights and the state’s responsibilities to ensure they are protected.

Use writing, photographs, drawings, videos, music and more! To help you along...here are some questions to think about:

1. What do you need in order to take part in the arts in South Dublin County?

2. What do you need in order to get a job in the arts?

3. What kinds of arts activities do you take part in? What activities would you like to see more of?

Here's a video of what some young people thought about arts in the area when they attended the Tallaght Youth Arts Forum Open House event at RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre in November 2009:

check out what some other young people have been saying all over Ireland at the Future Arts website!

What are the Arts?

I am keen to wonder,

I want to find out, some way or another,

I know i am involved through my radio interest,

Its seems less like work, and more like rest,

I enjoy it to the full extent

And at least I don't have to pay the rent.

Most importantly, its usually free,

And fun for a lot of people, especially me :P

What do I need in order to take part in the arts in South Dublin County?

Just a strong interest in a particular subject and a chocolate bar of  bounty.

What do I need in order to get a job in the arts?

A good CV, work experience and be eager to starts.

What kinds of arts activities do I take part in?

A bit of Radio and God knows what else makes my haed spin.

What activities would I like to see more of?

A bit more awareness and a bit more love. :D
