This project is about giving you a chance to have your voices heard in relation what is affecting the youth of today. Think of an issue that you would like to put to the people. Maybe chat to your friends to see what it is about our society today that you most want to discuss. We are going to get your message across to the masses through the power of word, text and art all combined in one thing, a poster, but not just any poster it will be in the form of a gig poster. The reason for a gig poster is because it links to the next part of the plan which is, search for music lyrics that reflect your feelings on your chosen issue and use them as a way to inspire your artwork. I don’t know about you but Im certainly inspired by music. This project is very much about a process and this is just the beginning. So get thinking and searching the net for some inspirational lyrics or even make up your own. Then post your findings or writings when you log in to participate and lets see where the music takes us …… To start getting some inspiration check out the work of Will Saint Ledger http://willstleger.wordpress.com/ and www.tinylittlehorse.com. You might also find inspiration from the quote from songs on http://www.corsinet.com/
Below you can see the first submission to this project that the artist has made...
I would like to congratulate everyone for their amazing work. It has been a pleasure working with you all.
Here are the final finshed posters. Well done everyone!!!

To check out the process of the project and its concept have a look bellow
The concept of this project is that you, the Noise participants, are getting a chance to have your voices heard in the form of music posters that will be put up in public for the world to see. The project will happen over the course of a few months and the first part is as follows….
You will each pick an issue relating to the effects of today’s society has on you. You might want to discuss with your friends to see what they have to say or look at the comments that others have posted. The most important thing is that this is your chance to be heard.
When you have a chosen topic, as a way of starting to find some inspiration, search for music lyrics that reflect your feelings on your chosen topic. You can also write your own lyrics or words.
While searching the net you may want to have a look at some music posters for inspiration.
One of the posters featured is Silkscreen movie promo poster for Such Hawks Such Hounds: Scenes from the American Hard Rock Underground. Limited edition of 111, signed and numbered by Malleus. Found on http://pipecreekposters.com/
You might find some ideas on these sites http://www.enotes.com/shakespeare-quotes/themes , http://www.quotegarden.com/music.html,
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/f/frank_zappa.html
Here are some links to irish artists website have a look at the stuff that they are doing you may get some great inspiration from them.http://willstleger.wordpress.com/, www.tinylittlehorse.com, www.frankenstyles.com, http://www.briancoldrick.com/, www.lovetherobot.com, http://www.flickr.com/photos/lauradeb/

Below is an example of a possible thought process for the listen to the Noise project.
Imagine that I am uploading each section to the noise page as I go along. Im interested in Zen Buddism so I just had a little look on the net to find a saying that I liked the look of. I found this one. The most important point is to accept yourself and stand on your two feet. http://www.oneproverb.net/bwfolder/zenproverbs.html The reason that I like this is that it is a good tip for us to live by and especially for young people finding your feet in the world. Having found the saying I looked for imagery that would relate to the saying and to the message that I was trying to portray. Once again I scanned the net. I could also have gone out and taken some photos or simply take pictures of my feet. I liked this one. http://www.myairshoes.com/nike/paris-nike-air-force-1-sneaker-exclusives.html
Shunryu Suzuki

So now I go about making a poster with this. The important point here is that seen, as it’s a work in progress it’s important to put up the work as you go along. So you might try out various versions of the same poster.

Here is the first attempt that I did messing about on Microsoft Paint & HP image zone.

This is an example of another possible thought process for the listen to the Noise project. Imagine that I am uploading each section to the noise page as I go along. For this session I looked at the sites that I had posted as a starting point. While doing so I had the idea of looking at quotes relating to potential issues e.g., confidence, intimidation etc. This quote below attracted me. ‘So it took an eight-year-old child to bring 'em to their senses.... That proves something - that a gang of wild animals can be stopped, simply because they're still human. Hmp, maybe we need a police force of children’. ~Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, Chapter 16, spoken by the character Atticus What I liked about this is that it echoes certain angles of our project as in the strength of influence you all could have.
So from there once again I searched for some images and here are some I thought I could use for example a pride of lions and a photo of a child and adults hand (featured below) Having messed about on PhotoShop for a while I came up with this poster idea.
There are still a lot of changes or adjustments I would do to these for example, the text needs some work, but the point is that it’s a jump off point, something to work with. The reason that I chose this image is because it looks like the child has a firm grip on the adult and is leading them. The colour choice is to reference the police force as in navy and gold. These are the type of considerations you would have when trying to convey a message. The reason that I have posted the picture below because I felt that it would be useful to observe the use of font and imagery to convey the fact that the play is based in war time America. I have also included some cool posters that I came across on my travels around Dublin. I felt that they might be a good source of inspiration as they are quite creative and it is good to observe the kind of posters that are being used to advertise gigs etc around Dublin. Here are some flyers that attracted my attention. The fact that they did this means that these flyers did their job well. It can be useful to look at other work like these when planning your own. Observe things like use of colour, layout, text and even the athmosphere of the flyer.
The Japanese one attracted me because I love Japanese print work. I actually use it for a book mark now. What attracted me to the apple one was the use of colour and quirkyness. I have included the others because they are a good example of simple but effective graphics.

Here are pictures taken of some of our brainstorm collages.
We came up with issues that felt relate to the youth of today and used magazines to find words that reflect our ideas and to source some interesting text styles.

Here are some quotes that I found. You might find them interesting or a good source of inspiration.
http://www.enotes.com/shakespeare-quotes/themes "Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind." A Midsummer Night's Dream (I, i, 234) Shakespeare "Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and Twelfth Night (II, v, 156-159) Shakespeare “Good name in man and woman, dear my lord, Othello Act 3, scene 3, 155–161 Shakespeare http://www.quotegarden.com/music.html Without music life would be a mistake. ~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche Music is what feelings sound like. ~Author Unknown Play the music, not the instrument. ~Author Unknown Music is the shorthand of emotion. ~Leo Tolstoy http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/f/frank_zappa.html ‘Art is making something out of nothing and selling it. The United States is a nation of laws: badly written and randomly enforced. The computer can't tell you the emotional story. It can give you the exact mathematical design, but what's missing is the eyebrows. Music is always a commentary on society.

Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.”

In my opinion, some of adults see the "Youth of Today"; especially teenagers, as useless.
You'd swear that adults were never
teenagers themselves.
Worries about the economy etc. have taken the memories.
In response to this idea, I made this. A few words from Play Radio Play!'s "Compliment Eachother", one of my favorite pictures, [which I took on a beach in Scotland] and a negitive effect.

This one is a bit harder to decipher. I'd say take your own view and stick to it. The graphics came from the internet. The REQUIEM refers to the present generation that will be deceased or senile, when WE are in charge. (Of sorts.)

HERE'S a simple Haiku that I came up with. The vocab is pretty simple.

I made this one using Microsoft Paint, but I think it looks good. I love the colours too.

I have this GREAT Oscar Wilde quote! Lookie here...

...what a cool dude.
I wanted to find something, primarily a word thing (quote, phrase, extract or poem) that included bits on the young, the middle, and the old.
After racking the internet I found this:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find who the poet was. But I want anyone who comes across to read it. I want to know if I should make a poster out of it. And any suggestions for an image would be great. Thanks. :)
Here's a poster using the Oscar Wilde...

I've tweaked it a little bit.

"With every puppet comes a puppeteer" basically means don't be a puppet in life; have your own mind, make your own opinions, have your own beliefs and make informed decisions rather than having people make decisions for you (aka the puppeteer.)

The Nowhere Man picture had pretty much the same meaning behind it. I got the words from the song "Nowhere Man" by The Beatles. That really gave me the whole image in my mind that I wanted - a fed up man looking a bit lost.

"Save some face you know you've only got one" is a line from the song Smile Like You Mean it by The Killiers.

Heeey (: Em this is my first poster .. I just really wanted to say like that the music we listen to shouldnt matter to others like its a personal choice and to most teenagers ,a bit of an escape I guess .. And i also wanted to say that we conform to society today so the least society could do is respect the only thing we have essentially our music choice .. anywaaay .. hope you like it (:
