With two Irish Short Films in the running for an Oscar this weekend what better time to announce the deadline for the Filmbase/RTE Short Film Awards 2012! Over 100 short films have been funded through the scheme since it began giving numerous filmmakers early career support. Filmmakers supported through the scheme include Kirsten Sheridan (In America, Disco Pigs, August Rush), John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix) Martina Niland (producer of Once) and 2011 IFTA/Irish Film Board Rising Star nominee Ina Power (The Runway)

There will be two rounds of funding this year with deadlines on Friday 30th March, and Friday 28th September. Up to four films will be funded through the scheme with two awards available per round. Applications are now being accepted for the first round of the award. Anyone interested in applying should check out the full guidelines on our website here

The initial application is based solely on the script so if you have a great script that needs to be made, send it through! We have made some changes to the guidelines so even if you have applied before please make sure to read through the information carefully.

We have also included a selection of useful resources including links to a number of Filmbase/RTE funded shorts on our Youtube channel www.youtube.com/filmbase and a case study on the short film Tufty (http://www.filmbase.ie/awards/casestudytufty.php)

The exhibition will feature artists from Canada, Ireland, Latvia, Portugal and Slovenia and will be shown in three venues:

West Cork Arts Centre, Cork (February 24 – March 16, 2012)

Kilkenny County Council Arts Office, Kilkenny (March 30 – April 26, 2012)

No Grants Gallery, Temple Bar, Dublin (May 3-30, 2012)

The Dublin exhibition includes workshops in animation, filmmaking, photography and spoken word—all inspired by the art work! Check out the website for more details!

The art work has been submitted by international partners who were originally part of the Eksperimenta! triennial exhibition of young people’s art work in Estonia in 2011. The ‘Young Makers’ programme has emerged among the Irish partners whose work was selected for presentation in Estonia, and reflects a desire to build on the Estonian project, with a national touring exhibition of Irish and international work that represents exemplary youth arts practice and celebrates the talent and imagination of young artists.

Latest news about the exhibition will be kept up to date on: youngmakers.net.
