St. Kevin’s Animation Project

Posted on Thursday, November 11th, 2010

work-by-maeve-clancy Young people from the St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre are working on their third art project together.

The project involves dance/movement, animation and music. The group, who are made up of young people from the Irish Wheelchair Association and the Tallaghtfornia Foroige Club, are working with visual artist Maeve Clancy, dancers Lisa Cahill and Sarah Slattery and musician Michael Fleming.

They have been exploring the links between movement/dance and animation through workshops. They are working toward a final animation piece. Below, you can see some of the work they have been doing to learn more about movement and animation.

Here is the latest work the group has done, Jan 29th 2011:

Maeve is looking for comments back about this work. What do you think? What kind of music might go with this?

You can also see previous projects the group have worked on:

In July 2009, young people worked with CROI GLAN Integrated Dance Company to choreograph a dance piece that was performed at the Civic Theatre on Sunday, July 26th. The piece, entitled ‘Do Look Now’, brought the young people together in a participatory form of dance that encouraged trust and self-expression.

From October 2009 - January 2010, the group worked with Aileen Lambert on stop motion films. The project was entitled CLICK-CLICK and one of the films, Butterfly, won an Audience Choice Award at FRESH Film Festival’s Dublin Heat in March 2010 as well as a Special Mention Award at NOISE Flicks Youth Film Festival.

The St. Kevin’s youth arts group is supported by the Department of Social and Family Affairs, St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre, Foroige, Tallaght Youth Service, the Irish Wheelchair Association, South Dublin County Council’s Arts Office, and the Arts Council.
