NOISE Flicks Film Festival 2009 Winners Announced!

NOISE Flicks is a new festival featuring short films of any type, drama, comedy, action, documentary, or Flash animation by young people ages 14 - 25 in South Dublin County. This first annual event was held at RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre on March 21st.

International award winning directors, Ken Wardrop and Brian Durnin were also on hand for an information discussion. We viewed Durnin’s film ‘An Teanga Runda’ and Wardrop’s ‘Useless Dog’ and asked them about their filmmaking experiences.

Gerry Gilvary, Video/TV Production lecturer spoke about different film studies programmes for young people.

Still from ‘Dust’ submitted by Amy Buckley, ITT student. A gripping depiction of a young woman’s drug addiction. Winner ‘Best Overall Film’ for the 19 - 25 age category.

‘Pure NOISE’ submitted by The Soundation Team, Lucan Youth Service. Sound/Visual piece. The Soundation team transformed film and audio recording of members of Rathfarnham Concert band performing.

‘Loathing’ submitted by ‘Area 24′ Youth Health Cafe, Tallaght Youth Service. A young girl moves to town and meets a boy that doesn’t like the same music as her. They don’t get a long at all, but they may have more in common than they realise…

‘A Sign for Life’ by Laura Greally, student at ITT. An interesting inside look at deaf culture. This film won ‘Special Mention’ for the 19 - 25 age category as well as the ‘Overall Audience Choice Award’!

‘Our Centre’ submitted by Quarryvale Multi Media Group, part of Ronanstown Youth Service. An animated documentary about Quarryvale Community and Leisure Centre.

Back‘Zartog’ is a film submitted by Adam and Tadgh O’Reilly, pictured here. These young filmmakers presented a sci fi film in which Lord Zartog threatens all earthlings in order to get a hold of their fruity lip gloss…Winner of the ‘Overall Best Film’ for the 14 - 18 age category.

Teddy Bears Picnic by Tallaght Young Filmmakers. The Teddy Bears aren’t all they seem in Tallaght Library…

‘Tale of Genji’ by Tallaght Young Filmmakers. An sinister tale of love based on an ancient Japanese story of the same name. Winner of ‘Special Mention’ 14 - 18 age category.

NOISE Flicks is part of the NOISE South Dublin online project and networked NOISE community of creative young people in South Dublin. NOISE Flicks 2009 was supported by Dublin Community Television, RED South Dublin County Arts Centre, and IT Tallaght.
