Telling Your Story through Art

Posted on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Artist Annette Woolley facilitated art classes where students learnt how to visually express their memories, culture, tradition, relationships through the medium of fabric printing and appliqué. Women from ages 18 and up participated. The classes were run over a period of four weeks in Clondalkin and Tallaght as part of Social Inclusion Week 2008. The process involved looking at patterns and design throughout the history of art. Participants then made their own designs based on a memory or a story that was important to them. They made stencils and placed them on fabric. They applied paint to make an impression of the design on the fabric, then buttons and other decorative items were sewn on. The work, some of which you can see below, is being exhibited at County Hall in Tallaght from Monday, January 26th through Februrary 6th 2009.
