Clondalkin Youth Theatre (CYT) recently performed a new stage play called ‘Understanding Marcus’ by Veronica Coburn. The play focuses on the story of young people meeting a new friend on their usual train to school. What happens along the way is very interesting and has lasting consequences for the group. The story starts out funny but then becomes very dark and sad. The play was first performed as part of the National Association of Youth Drama’s New Stage Festival. CYT performed in Cork for the festival on November 14 - 16.
Young people involved in the play have explained this is the first contemporary stage play they will have performed. They feel the experience has been challenging, but interesting to play a role that relates more to their own experiences. They are anxious to do another performance and are currently recruiting new members.
The group also staged two performances in the Civic Theatre’s Loose End Studio to nearly sold out audiences. The performance was extraordinary.
